What Is It All About ?

The Camino is a network of multiple pilgrimages (walking routes) beginning across the whole of Europe, leading to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, northwestern Spain.

The route that you will be hiking is called Camino Del Norte. It prolongs the entire coastline of northern Spain.

Each day the group will have a set destination to walk to. It does not matter how long it takes you to get there, as long as you reach the scheduled target.

This is 100% your Camino!

You do what you want to do, when and where you feel like doing it.

Walk at the pace that you are happy with.

Eat wherever you see fit.

Surf whichever secret break you come across.

Chill and explore the villages and beaches.

Choose where you want to stay (hostels /hotel /air b&b...)

It's your Camino, you do it your way!

We provide you with your daily digital content to encourage you as we hike to the final destination.

For What Purpose ?

This is a pilgrimage, a retreat, an endurance test, a surf trip, and a mobile conference.

It's filled with fun, laughter and a strong sense of community.

Christians have used this route to meet with Jesus for over 1000 years.

It will teach you how to intentionally rest in Him.

How to work through some of the struggles of your present and past.

How to step onto the "way" for your future.

How Does The Conference Work ?

Upon your day of arrival, you will gain access to a week's worth of purpose-built digital content on your phone.

This media has been produced to develop your journey of leadership, to help you reflect and find freedom from the past, inspire you for an adventurous future, all the while enriching your Camino experience.

It includes :

Daily breakdown of the route (a video with tips on great places to eat, what to explore in each town, cool places to sleep...).

Worship and directed prayer from some of our finest worship leaders within the Surf Church Collective and Christian Surfer family.

Keynote sermons dealing with life-changing topics.

The material provided will lasts for 2 hours per day. You listen to it whilst you walk. No need to stop! The remaining time is dedicated to your spontaneous experience of the Camino. Connect with others, go deep and seek prayer, walk by yourself, be alone with God... or my personal favourite, listen to some rock music and dance your way down the road!

Who Can Go ?

We are welcoming all leaders from the Surf Church Collective and Christian Surfers and their families and friends. The children of parents, however, keep in mind the physical challenge of walking 100km in 7 days.

Surfers and none surfers.

You can carry your board on your back and surf, or simply stick to your backpack and discover the amazing wonders along the coast.

Groms (17+) who want to explore their faith beyond the norms of where they come from.  Surrounded by others their own age it will be a coming-of-age experience. The adventure of a lifetime.

Ultimately those who feels the urge to be there!

Where Is The Route ?

The Camino Del Norte is arguably the most scenic route. Unspoiled sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, emerald meadows, the Atlantic Ocean, beautiful historical cities and towns, and lush green forests. It traditionally takes 5-weeks (including rest days) to hike from the beginning in Irun France to the finishing line in Santiago Spain.

The Surfers Way is being held for 7 days. 20 spots are available.  We would love to have you join us for longer or the whole duration of the walk if that is a possibility for you.

That first week takes you from Irun, through to San Sabastian and onto Bilbao as your final destination. Depending on the forecast, we will end our adventure with a day trip to Mundaka. The best left in Europe.

Those that wish to walk more than the first week must specify in the Registration form.

Is The Camino Del Norte Difficult To Walk ?

It is a very exciting challenge. Without a doubt, the Camino de Santiago del Norte is a demanding route. Being coastal can mean that the route is a little tough. The hilly and sometimes mountainous coastal terrain involves a lot of ascents and descents.

However, whether or not you are an experienced hiker or have never put on a pair of walking shoes, you will still make it. It takes a few days for your feet to adapt to your shoes, and you can expect blisters. Your sense of achievement having walked for an odd 25 km a day is unlike any other.

We suggest you conquer a couple of 10 km hikes as a training exercise in the weeks leading up. Breaking into your new shoes will make a big difference.

How Much Does It Cost ?

Conference registration fee: €250 (~ $240)

This pays for your daily leadership digital content and your experienced guides as you walk with Rich and the team. The rate stays the same regardless of how long you are walking for 7, 15, 28 days...

Daily costs: €45 on average (~ $43)

Walking the Camino is a separate cost that you are responsible for each day. This cost varies according to your budget. If you are eating at more expensive restaurants and sleeping in hotels your costs will increase. We tend to sleep in the "Albergue" for a few nights, followed by a night in a hotel for some well-deserved rest.

The average day of spending

  • Basic accommodation (shared hostel) : 10-17 Euros  (hotel: 40 -100+)

  • Breakfast and lunch (you find bakeries or supermarkets as you walk): 10- 15 Euros

  • Pilgrims meal (each restaurant offers a 3-course meal specifically for pilgrims): 15 Euros

  • Laundry (you are travelling light and will need to wash your clothes every 2/3days: 7 Euros

Where Do I Sleep ?

The Norte route is well-marked with a network of pilgrim hostels. The classic Camino accommodation is called an Albergue. It is shared hostel accommodation and is very much part of the experience.

The cheapest Albergues tend to consist of huge rooms or halls filled with bunk beds. They provide you with hot showers, Wifi, pillows and sheets. Some have kitchens and laundry facilities. However, if sharing a space is not your thing, that's totally ok. The Camino has you covered! You can upgrade.

You are responsible to book your night's accommodation. We have a bunch of apps that make this process easy.  Most Albergues allow you to book in advance. The night before is usually fine. If you don't feel like booking, you can show up on the day, have a good look around, and ask for any availabilities.

Need Some Filming Done ?

Taking back the memory of the week is our little gift to you. We will document and put together a high-quality video of the group's entire experience on the Camino.

If you wish for us to produce something more custom-made, like your personal experience, a film to bring back to your church or a sermon you wish to record along the way... we can help! Well, Manified Productions will help. For a modest fee, they will film and edit the video you need for home!

Specify on the Registration page if you are interested in a personalised video.
